Traffic Module (TMC)
The TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver works by using TMC (Traffic Message Channel) technology. The receiver acquires information through an FM radio signal broadcast by regional providers. By simply connecting the new TomTom GO device to the RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver, users will automatically receive traffic information via the TMC connection. Once a trip is planned, traffic alerts are clearly displayed in the traffic bar on the right hand side of the screen. When users tap the traffic bar, they receive further information, such as accident or traffic jam delays.
The TomTom GO 730 satellite navigator is pre-loaded with 21 Western European. The large high-quality 4.3-inch touchscreen and latest version of TomTom's award-winning, user-friendly software enables you to plan your route to fit your requirements, such as: quickest, shortest, avoiding toll roads and congestion charge areas, by required arrival time, etc.
EasyPort(TM) mount
The TomTom EasyPort(TM) mount has a unique, flexible design, allowing the user to affix their TomTom device securely to the desired position on the windshield, using the mechanical locking system. Once at their destination, the user can then remove it quickly and easily, with one twist, when leaving their vehicle. The clever design allows the driver to fold away the mount neatly onto the TomTom device -- and remove the entire unit, without having to worry about stowing the mount separately.
Safety as a priority
Independent safety research** has shown the importance of audible navigation instructions to road safety. The TomTom ONE IQ V5 has been redesigned, no compromise has been made on audio performance. The TomTom ONE IQ V5 - 5th Edition now include a much larger, enhanced speaker system, so that the spoken instructions are loud and clear at all times against any background noise within a typical in-car environment.
TomTom's exclusive 'Help Me!' feature will give new TomTom ONE IQ V5 users direct access to safety and emergency services information. The extensive 'Help Me!' menu includes information such as emergency and breakdown service numbers, directions to the nearest hospital and car repair service. Advanced safety preferences also allow the user to set their own requirements regarding speed warnings, timed driving breaks and menu accessibility .
IQ Routes™ technology On TomTom One IQ V5
The innovative IQ Routes™ technology is based on real average speeds measured on roads, rather than static maximum speeds per road type. This means the new TomTom GO range determines a route by considering all possible routes and then selecting the one that takes the least time. In almost 50% of all journeys, this results in driving a different and faster route, saving significant travel time as well as saving money and fuel.
“With the introduction of IQ Routes™ technology, we continue to focus our efforts on features and content that improve the core navigation experience”, says Harold Goddijn, TomTom’s chief executive officer. “Everyone knows that traffic on Sunday is different to traffic on Monday and this is exactly what has been taken into account on the new TomTom GO. IQ Routes™ delivers what we call ‘intelligent routing’ – an even smarter and efficient way of planning your daily route.”
TomTom IQ Routes™
The new TomTom IQ Routes™ technology is based on actual average speeds on roads, rather than the sign-posted speed limits. This intelligent routing technology is based on anonymous historical speed profiles of over 10 billion kilometres of driven roads, gathered over the years by millions of TomTom users. It takes into account all the factors that may influence the time it takes drivers to get to their destination, including traffic lights, roundabouts, steep slopes and speed bumps.
The TomTom IQ Routes™ speed profile database continues to grow at the rate of over half a billion measurements per day, so the time and spatial accuracy of TomTom IQ Routes™ technology will continually increase. Drivers can be confident that they will always be given the smartest route incorporating detailed local knowledge. This allows for more efficient daily route planning, in particular when driving through urban and mountainous areas.
We all know traffic is different during a Monday morning rush hour from a lazy Sunday afternoon. We all want the best shortcuts to bring us to our destination in the fastest way possible. But heavy traffic, speed bumps, traffic lights, roundabouts and even schoolchildren or shopping crowds can slow you down. That handy shortcut you’re looking for varies depending on time and day. Which means your shortest route isn’t necessarily going to be the fastest all the time!
Advanced Lane Guidance
An addition, the new TomTom GO series features Advanced Lane Guidance, a first for the navigation mass market. Advanced Lane Guidance gives drivers a more realistic view and enhanced visual instructions of drivers’ surroundings, ensuring they are better informed about the situation ahead.
With the new Advanced Lane Guidance feature, navigating difficult junctions becomes easier than ever before. The realistic representation of highway junctions on the screen including clear arrows indicating the lane direction, provide drivers with timely instructions to take the correct lane. Static images of road signs, in the same colour as the ones displayed on the road ensure drivers have an even better overview of their surroundings.

How Does Satellite Navigation work?
Satellite navigation uses the Global Position System (GPS), a network of satellites which transmits signals to your sat nav device. At least 24 satellites are in operation around the world at any one time.
A sat-nav system in a car receives signals from several satellites at one time to pinpoint a precise location. This information is combined with mapping information in the satnav system to establish the exact position of the car and calculate your route.
Most top brand sat nav systems will allow you to have speed camera locations, both Gatso (fixed) and Radar / Laser, loaded into the database.Click here for more information on speed cameras
